Sale 962 — United States Stamps
Sale Date — Wednesday-Friday, 24-26 September, 2008
Category — 1902-08 thru Jamestown Issues (Scott 300-330)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. EASILY THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF THE $1.00 1902 ISSUE WE HAVE EVER HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO OFFER IN OUR AUCTIONS. THIS REMARKABLE STAMP HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE -- AND IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS HIGHLY SOUGHT-AFTER GRADE.
As an indication of the rarity of this dollar-value issue in higher grades, the SMQ does does not even price this in Mint N.H. condition above the grade of 95. In fact, with the exception of one 15c (Superb 98) and this $1.00, there are no other Mint N.H. Superb 98's or 100's among the 1902 Issue high-value stamps in the P.S.E. Population Report.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 95, SMQ $12,700.00 as 95). This is the highest grade awarded to date, and this stamp is the only example to achieve this grade.

EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE $1.00 1902 ISSUE.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90; SMQ $4,850.00). Only nine have graded higher to date.

FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE 2-CENT 1903 BOOKLET PANE VARIETY.
We do not recall ever offering this variety with plate number in our past auction sales

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 5-CENT LOUISIANA PURCHASE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO LOCATE IN THIS SUPERB QUALITY.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $2,650.00)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT JAMESTOWN, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- ONLY TWO HAVE GRADED HIGHER TO DATE AND ONLY ONE OTHER SHARES THIS LOFTY GRADE.
The Jamestown Issue is notorious for its tight spacing and narrow margins, which causes most copies to be off-center to some degree. For example, only five examples of the 1c have graded higher than a 95 to date, and one example of the 5c has graded higher than a 95. The only Jamestown stamp to grade 100 realized $18,500 hammer in our 2008 Rarities sale
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $3,550.00)
