Sale 953 — United States Stamps
Sale Date — Tuesday-Friday, 25-28 March, 2008
Category — 1875 Continental Bank Note Co. Issue (Scott 178-179)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1875 2-CENT VERMILION CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN AWARDED THE GRADE OF XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE.
A search of our computerized records indicates that the 2c 1875 Issue is exceedingly difficult to find in high-grade Mint N.H. condition, despite its modest Scott Catalogue value. The example offered here is certainly one of the finest extant.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $8,900.00). This is the highest grade awarded to date and only one other shares this grade (it was last sold in our auction of the Scarsdale Collection, Sale 924).
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MASSIVE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1875 5-CENT TAYLOR CONTINENTAL ISSUE.
With 1988 P.F. certificate
