Sale Number 935, Lot Number 28, Trans-Mississippi Issue$1.00 Trans-Mississippi (292), $1.00 Trans-Mississippi (292)$1.00 Trans-Mississippi (292). Top imprint and plate no. 606 block of six, original gum, slight disturbance from hinge removal, well-centered, excellent impression, reduced top margin, few rejoined perfs, couple faint thins in previously hinged areas and tiny repaired tear in corner of bottom right stamp

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE PLATE NUMBER BLOCK OF SIX OF THE $1.00 TRANS-MISSISSIPPI ISSUE.

The $1.00 Trans-Mississippi stamp is widely regarded as the most beautiful stamp ever issued by the United States. Plate blocks of six are much rarer than the four-stamp plate blocks. The Kobacker and Wampler collections only had plate number blocks of four, and other than a pane of 50 this is the only plate block of six we have offered since keeping computerized records.
