Feb. 8" double-circle datestamp on 1866 buff cover originating in Hawaii and addressed to London, England, red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid Jan. 22" circular datestamp, red New York 38c credit datestamp and red London receiving circular datestamp, backflap missing and minor wrinkles and wear

A FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE USE OF THE BLACK JACK STAMP TO PAY SHIP FEE ON A TRANS-OCEANIC COVER FROM HAWAII TO ENGLAND VIA SAN FRANCISCO AND NEW YORK

The double rate U.S. postage to England was prepaid with the 24c pair, and the Black Jack stamp prepaid the 2c ship captain's fee. Hawaiian postage was paid in coin at the Honolulu post office. Very few covers are known showing use of the Black Jack stamp from Hawaii.

Mar. 15, 1883" circular datestamp and purple "VOLCANO HOUSE/KILAUEA"%$ two-line handstamp (variety of Ty. 204, Rarity 1R) on cover to San Francisco, magenta receiving datestamp, creases affecting stamp, a bit stained at lower left, still Fine and extremely rare, according to Gregory the Hilo Ty. 238.02 circular datestamp device was lost in February 1888, thus we are confident the year date on this cover is 1883, not 1888, which makes this an extremely early Volcano House usage
