Sale Number 878, Lot Number 241, 1847 Issue10c Black (2), 10c Black (2)10c Black (2). Large margins to full at top, used with Boyd's City Express, 2c Black on Green Glazed (20L7), large margins, lightly cancelled, both stamps tied by red square grid cancel, well-struck matching "New-York Mar. 24" circular datestamp on 1851 folded letter to Hartland Ill., some slight cover age spotting of no significance

EXTREMELY FINE. ONE OF TWO RECORDED COVERS WITH THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE USED WITH ANY OF THE BOYD'S CITY EXPRESS ISSUES.

The other 10c 1847/Boyd's combination cover is listed in the Alexander census on page 462 (09/22/47). It is identified as a Boyd''s 20L7 stamp, but the date of use, September 22, 1847, is approximately one year earlier than the earliest use of 20L7 (Type V). The March 24, 1851, cover offered here is well within the normal usage period for Boyd's 20L7.
