Sale Number 863, Lot Number 218, 1847 Issue On Cover5c Red Brown (1), 5c Red Brown (1)5c Red Brown (1). Large to full margins, tied by brown grid, matching "San Antonio Txs. Dec. 10" circular datestamp on blue 1850 folded cover to Austin Tex., light vertical file fold does not affect stamp

EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED USAGE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE FROM SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.

The cover is addressed to "P.M. Bell, City of Austin Texas". According to United States 1847 Issue: A Cover Census by Thomas J. Alexander, Texas received 7,900 5c stamps. Only six covers are recorded used from any Texas town. Due to the distance between towns in Texas, there was probably little demand for the 5c stamps.
