Sale Number 853, Lot Number 2483, Eagle Carrier1c Blue, Eagle Carrier (LO2), 1c Blue, Eagle Carrier (LO2)1c Blue, Eagle Carrier (LO2). Ample margins, tied by bold "Cleveland O. Jun. 29" circular datestamp on cover front only to addressee's local box number, reduced and rounded at right

THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE EAGLE CARRIER USED IN CLEVELAND.

With the appointment of Henry S. Bishop, Cleveland's carrier system commenced operation in 1853. There is no record of an Eagle Carrier shipment to Cleveland, so it is likely that this cover was mailed by someone passing through who had in his possession an Eagle Carrier stamp.

Illustrated and discussed in Chronicle 125 (Feb. 1985).
