Statesville N.C., 5c Black entire (79XU1). Partly clear provisional handstamp, neat "Statesville N.C. Oct. 25" circular datestamp on cover to member of 4th Regt. N.C. State Troops at Manassas Junction Va., pencil forwarding note, reduced at right, some slight wear, otherwise Fine, scarce only 19 are recorded in Crown survey
Sumter S.C., 10c Black entire (80XU2). Clear markings with postmaster's initials, bearing 20c Green (13) which was affixed over provisional and tied by circular datestamp on cover to "Wolf Trap P.O., Richmond & D.R. Road, Halifax County Virginia", stamp moved to reveal provisional markingssome wear, Fine and exceedingly rare, with 1990 C.S.A. certificate
Talbotton Ga., 5c Black entire (94XU1). Provisional marking at left with "Talbotton Ga. Apr. 21, 1862" double-circle datestamp on cover to Alexander Stephens at Crawfordville Ga., slightly reduced at top as are most from this correspondence, Very Fine and scarce, only eight are recorded in Crown survey, with 1991 Green certificate

Uniontown Ala., 5c Green on Gray Blue (86X3). Large margins to just touched, tied by usual indistinct strike of Uniontown Ala. circular datestamp on gray cover to Montgomery Ala., Cobbs correspondence, missing mall part of top flapVERY FINE AND RARE. ONLY NINE EXAMPLES OF THE UNIONTOWN 5-CENT GREEN ON GRAY BLUE PAPER ARE RECORDED IN THE CROWN CENSUS.

Uniontown Ala., 5c Green (86X4). Margins clear to just barely in, tied by indistinct Uniontown circular datestamp on blue cover to Montgomery Ala., from the Cobbs correspondenceVERY FINE AND CHOICE. ONLY THIRTEEN COVERS WITH THE UNIONTOWN 5-CENT ON WHITE ARE RECORDED IN CROWN.

Unionville S.C., 5c Black on Grayish (87X1). Bold strikes of the "Paid" in oval above "5" handstamp on adhesive, effectively "tied" by gum toning on coverto Pacolet Mills S.C., faint but readable strike of "Unionville S.C. Sep. 3" circular datestamp, cover with minor edgewear and gently cleanedVERY FINE AND RARE. ONLY FOUR COVERS BEARING THE UNIONVILLE POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ARE CONTAINED IN OUR RECORDS.
The Unionville Provisional was produced by using two handstamps on hand at the post office. The paper, slightly bluish, was first ruled by pencil into lines forming squares. One example also shows printed lines, indicating that it may have been created from normal lined paper.
Our records contain the following four covers (none are known off-cover): 1) Pair tied by circular datestamp on 7-Star Patriotic cover to Centreville Va., ex Ferrary, Caspary and Lilly; 2) Uncancelled on cover to Pacolet Mills S.C., cover repaired at top and bottom; 3) the cover offered here; and 4) Tied by Unionville circular datestamp on cover to Mt. Taubor (N.C.), some staining around stamp.
