EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. VERY FEW ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLES OF THE 5-CENT 1856 ISSUE ARE KNOWN. A GREAT RARITY.

The last time we offered an original-gum example of this stamp was in our auction of the Lewis Golin collection (Sale 812) in May 1999. That stamp realized $14,000 hammer.
