EXTREMELY FINE AND CHOICE PAIR OF THE NEW YORK PROVISIONAL AND VERY SCARCE WITHOUT THE USUAL MANUSCRIPT CANCELLATION.

In addition to initialling each stamp, the New York post office typically used pen and blue ink to cancel the stamps. Examples with a red handstamped marking and no manuscript cancel are much scarcer and more desirable.

It is unusual for New York provisional covers not to have a New York circular datestamp.
