The Calais Vt. Cameo. Tiny male profile, negative image reminiscent of Gen. Geo. McClellan, in octagon frame, well-struck on 3c Rose (65), on small cover with matching "Calais Vt. Apr. 18" double circle ds, cover with tiny edge toning at left only, still Very Fine, accompanied by a second cover from the same correspondence, mailed two days later and showing a fair strike of the same marking on another 3c. THE ONLY KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THIS UNIQUE MARKING, probably the handiwork of postmaster Ira Kent (the only other fancy credited to Calais is a simple "OK").
