Lindbergh "Spirit of St. Louis" Solo Trans-Atlantic Flight, One of Two Covers flown aboard Capt. Lindbergh's World Famous New York to Paris Flight May 20-21, 1927. Large size" State of Illinois" Multicolor "Aerial Mail" Envelope, addressed to Mr. G.J. Brandeweide in St. Louis, Mo., typewritten inscription reads "This letter was carried by Capt. Charles A. Lindbergh in his monoplane, Orteig Contest, New York to Paris and mailed by him at Paris, France", signed "C.A. Lindbergh", Lindbergh, Paris, France return address. Cover returned to Mr. Brandeweide in another large size envelope sent registered from Paris postmarked the 28th of May, 1927 franked with 4fr French postage. It is recorded that Capt. Lindbergh stated before departing for Paris that "I'm taking one letter for Postmaster Conkling of Springfield-I couldn't say no to him-and one letter for my friend Gregory Brandeweide, who worked with me laying out the mail route. That's all-except for the messages of introduction." Accompanying the cover is a personally signed note, "Regards Charles A. Lindbergh" on American Embassy, Paris, stationery, a photo-copy of the check used to pay for the Spirit of St. Louis & other fascinating materiai related to this history-making event. Unquestionably the Greatest Flight Cover in the World. We sincerely hope that the buyer, whether an institution or a private individual, will display this item for the public to see during 1977, the fiftieth anniversary of this epoch-making flight
