Two large to full margined plate 6 examples used on a partially preprinted turned and reused church questionnaire form, first lettered R-F and tied by red Maltese Cross cancel with Norwich Jan. 4, 1841 circular datestamp to Minister at Bodham, second lettered G-H and tied by red Maltese Cross cancel with Holt Jan. 14 circular datestamp and returned to Lord Bishop of Norwich

VERY FINE AND UNUSUAL PENNY BLACK RETURNED CHURCH QUESTIONNAIRE USING TWO PENNY BLACKS. ONLY TWO COMPLETE EXAMPLES ARE THOUGHT TO EXIST.

This form was sent by Edward Stanley, Bishop of Norwich from 1837-1849. We presume both stamps were affixed by him and likely originate from the same sheet. Bishop Stanley was renowned for combating laziness and lack of discipline among clergyman, easily seen by this church questionnaire. Only two complete examples are recorded by Karl Louis.
