Sale Number 1186, Lot Number 667, 2c Green Lithograph2c Green (3), 2c Green (3)2c Green (3). Full even margins, used with horizontal strip of five, 10c Light Blue, Paterson (2a), tied by four strikes of "Richmond Va. Oct. 21, 1862" circular datestamp on large part of oatmeal newspaper wrapper to Madisonville Tenn., manuscript "26 oz" at bottom, strip with flaws including tears and creases, some ink erosion in address

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A UNIQUE COMBINATION FRANKING WITH THE 2-CENT GREEN LITHOGRAPH AND A STRIP OF FIVE OF THE 10-CENT LIGHT BLUE PATERSON PRINTING.

The notation "26 oz" and 52c postage indicate that the sender believed the rate for a newspaper was 2c per ounce. Until July 1, 1863, the rate for non-subscriber newspapers was 2c for the first three ounces plus 2c per additional ounce. Therefore, the correct postage was 48c, and the 52c franking was 4c overpaid.
