photo was provided to a Mr. Davison in 1906 by the engraver's son, C. H. Jubert de la Ferte, letter from the son and original cover from Weybridge, England accompany, letter states "During your Civil War my father was asked to engrave the original die for the postage stamps of the Confederate States. I came across the other day, amongst other proofs of stamp engravings, the original photos from which my father, F. Joubert, engraved Jeff Davis' head and two proofs of the stamps..."
