Sale 1280, Lot 389, French Post Office in YokohamaFRANCE, 1862, 40c Orange (27; Yvert 23). Used with 1862, 10c Bister (25; Yvert 21), each tied by lightly struck "5118" dotted diamond cancel, clear "Yokohama Bau Francais 17 Fevr. 68" double-circle datestamp on blue folded letter with Grosser & Co. blue oval handstamp to Shanghai, China, sender's directive "pr Phase", bold red "PD" framed handstamp, "Shang-Hai Bau Francais 23 Fevr. 68" receiving backstamp, top of 10c torn away when separated, 40c slight oxidation, cover lightly toned, otherwise Fine, scarce inter-port cover, the rate between post offices in Yokohama and Shanghai was 60c at this time, but this franking was accepted for the obsolete 50c rate

Approximately 24 stamps, couple unused including one with large part original gum, others used, some varieties including split grill, double grill one split, couple with huge side margins, one wild misperf, a few cancels including rosette and "Ship", also some targets and colored cancels, mixed condition with some flaws to be expected, overall Fine group with some useful stamps, two certificates accompany, Scott value in excess of $2,500.00

Sale 1262, Lot 389, Civil War: Federal3c Rose (65). Cancelled by grid applied at Socorro on buff cover addressed to Fernando de Taos, New Mexico Territory, originated at Fort Goodwin, soldier’s endorsement “Soldiers Letter, S. H. Simpson, Capt. 1st NM Infantry”, military express to old Dragoon Butterfield station, then by Vedette Mail to Mesilla and on to Socorro, entered U.S. mails there and delivered by stage to Fernando de Taos, with original letter datelined “Fort Goodwin AT, Dec 11th 1864” from Capt. Smith H. Simpson, who refers to “this God forsaken Country”, some small edge tears and wear, still Fine, reported to be the only cover known from Fort Goodwin, accompanied by a letter datelined “Camp Goodwin, Sunday June 12th” from F. K. Upham
