Sale 1243, Lot 682, 1857-1862 Pence IssuesNEWFOUNDLAND, 1857, 4p Scarlet Vermilion (4; SG 4). Unused (no gum), exceptionally large margins all around which are rarely found on this stamp, dazzling color with a proof-like impression on bright paper

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A TRULY SUPERIOR UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 4-PENCE SCARLET VERMILION. A MAJOR NEWFOUNDLAND RARITY, ESPECIALLY AS A GEM SOUND EXAMPLE, QUALIFYING IT AS ONE OF THE FINEST KNOWN.

The vast majority of unused examples are plagued with faults and/or have small to touching margins. This stamp is an exception to the norm and is highlighted by the fact that this is only the second unused example we have offered in over 20 years.
