5c Trans-Mississippi (288). Tied by "La Crosse Wis. Apr. 11 12M '99" duplex datestamp on green cover
to Kiautschou, China, manuscript
"Via Chefoo" notation at bottom and eight separate datestamps on front and back trace the circuitous route this cover took to reach Kiautschou, including New York, San Francisco, Nagasaki, Vladivostok, Russia and China, slightly reduced at left and some minor edge faults, a fascinating cover which is addressed to a German marine stationed in German leased territory in China (Kiautschou Bay concession), Dr. Heimburger's research indicates this marine's unit was among the first to arrive in relief of the Western legations at Peking during the 1900 Boxer Rebellion, only months after this cover was received, ex Dr. Heimburger
