Deep rich colors and detailed impressions, three wide margins, neat strike of New York circle of eight wedges cancel, single nibbed perforation at lower left which is very minor and noted as "slightly short" on certificateVERY FINE. A RARE SOUND USED EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE INVERT. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST-CENTERED OF THE FEWER THAN ONE DOZEN SOUND EXAMPLES EXTANT.

A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL INVERT WITH REMARKABLY RICH COLORS. ONLY THREE OF THE 37 RECORDED USED COPIES ARE PERFECTLY CENTERED AND SOUND.

The circle of V's cancel on this stamp is known on covers from the Davis correspondence, mailed to Peru from New York City in August 1869 (see Chronicle 138, p. 124).

The Scott U.S. Specialized Graded value for a stamp graded Extremely Fine 90 -- in our opinion, this is at least an XF 90 -- is $142,500.00

Perfect centering with wide and balanced margins, quartered cork cancel on one half of stamp leaves inverted flag on other side completely unobscured, few small thin spots (one breaks thru grill point)EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE CENTERED EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE INVERT. ONLY 40 USED EXAMPLES ARE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS.

Unusually bright colors and fine impressions of the flags and central design, exceptionally well-defined grill, bold red Leaf cancellation at the bottom of the stamp which leaves the inverted flags completely unobscured, inconsequential corner crease at top leftVERY FINE AND CHOICE. THE FINEST OF THE FIVE RECORDED 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL INVERTS CANCELLED IN RED.
The red Leaf cancel was used in New York City on Supplementary Mail. It is scarce on the 30c 1869, and only five of the 40 recorded 30c used Inverts are cancelled in red.

A RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL INVERT WITH WIDE-SPACED TOP AND BOTTOM MARGINS AND PART OF A RED FOREIGN TRANSIT MARKING.

The stamp offered here is one of five in the Wide-Spaced centering category (see Chronicle No. 138, May 1988, page 123). The Wide-Spaced stamps have extra wide top and bottom margins. Three of the five Wide-Spaced stamps are centered slightly to left, as is this copy.
Census No. 121b-CAN-WS04. Ex Hansen. 1978 and 2005 P.F. certificates no longer accompany. With 2012 P.S.E. certificate (F 70; SMQ $92,000.00). Only two have graded higher to date and only one other shares this grade. That said, this Wide-Spaced stamp with rich colors deserves a higher grade in our opinion (VF 80)
