Sale Number 1196, Lot Number 882, 1869 Pictorial Issue24c Green & Violet (120), 24c Green & Violet (120)24c Green & Violet (120). Vertical pair, used with 3c Green (147), tied by partly legible strikes of Oct. 14 circular datestamps on reduced cover to Alpena Mich., extensive note at bottom from sender indicates this held depositions, Oct. 14, 1871 receipt docketing, scotch tape repairs could no doubt be aided by a restorer, the tape causes some staining on stamps, cover with cloth bindings held in place by intact wax seals

FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE DOMESTIC USE OF A PAIR OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE.

The franking pays 17-times the 3c rate, so the depositions must have been fairly long. Only four covers are known bearing two copies of the 24c 1869 Pictorial (plus three with more than two stamps, one offered in lot 881)
