1c Buff, Without Grill (112b). Original gum, rich color, completely soundFINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL WITHOUT GRILL. PROBABLY FEWER THAN TEN ARE KNOWN.
A Power Search of Scott 112b and a review of older sales produced five singles and a block of four. This is an attractive sound example of this rare stamp.
With 2016 P.F. certificate
1c Buff, Without Grill (112b). Large part original gum described on accompanying certificate as "part original gum", bright color, reperfed at rightVERY FINE APPEARANCE. PERHAPS A HALF-DOZEN EXAMPLES OF THE ONE-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL WITHOUT GRILL ARE KNOWN.
With 1994 and 2010 P.F. certificates, the former as sound.

We have offered only two since keeping computerized records. One was offered in our 1997 Rose sale. The other, ex Coulter, was recently offered in our 2009 Whitman sale. The example offered here has been off the market for approximately 50 years.
