VERY GOOD. A RARE SOUND, ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT Z GRILL.
With 1996 P.F. and 2014 P.S.E. certificates. Scott value $17,500.00

VERY FINE. A RARE UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT Z GRILL. PARTICULARLY DESIRABLE WITH THE GRILLED SELVAGE.
This stamp is one of the pieces of evidence supporting our theory that the Z and F Grills were used in succession on the same machine, while the D and E Grills were used in succession on another machine. Additional grills on Z/F Grill selvage always occurs at the sides, while additional grills on D/E Grills always occur at the top or bottom.
From our 2006 Rarities sale. 1955 P.F. certificate no longer accompanies. With 2006 P.F. certificate. Scott value without gum is $6,750.00. Scott value as original gum

VERY FINE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT Z GRILL.
This is one of the most difficult grilled issues to obtain with decent centering. As further evidence of this stamp's rarity, the P.S.E. Population Report lists only five original gum stamps in any grade, including graded 10 (two), 20, 30 and 50.
With 1986 P.F. certificate stating "part o.g."

FINE FOR THIS DIFFICULT ISSUE. A SCARCE SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT Z GRILL.
This is one of the most difficult grilled issues to obtain with decent centering. For example, the P.S.E. Population Report lists only five OG stamps, graded 10 (two), 20, 30 and 50.
With 1996 P.F. certificate

VERY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT Z GRILL.
To form our assessment of this 2c Z Grill, we conducted a survey of approximately 100 auction catalogues for major United States collections sold over the past 65 years. The majority of these collections contained only used or very poor unused examples of 85B. In general, many accomplished collectors, such as Sheriff, Klein and Seymour, evidently were unable to acquire a well-centered, original-gum 2c Z Grill. Power Search produced only a very few, along with some near-misses -- the most common flaw being faint creases. Finally, the P.S.E. Population Report lists only five original-gum stamps, with the highest grade a 50.
With 1998 and 2007 P.F. certificates

FINE AND RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT Z GRILL.
The majority of original-gum examples of this issue listed in Power Search are not well-centered -- with normally two sides close or touched by the perfs. This is an attractive example of this rare original-gum stamp.
With 2006 P.S.E. certificate

EXTREMELY FINE. THE 1868 2-CENT Z GRILL IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT GRILLED ISSUES TO OBTAIN IN SOUND, CENTERED ORIGINAL-GUM CONDITION. A TRUE CONDITION RARITY. THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE.
To form our assessment of this 2c Z Grill, we conducted a survey of approximately 100 auction catalogues for major United States collections sold over the past 60 years. The majority of these collections contained only used or very poor unused examples of 85B. Power Search produced only a very few, along with some near-misses -- the most common flaw being faint creases. A Power Search review turned up perhaps 2-3 sound copies, but the centering was off side-to-side, as on the Whitman copy and one in our 2010 Rarities sale. Finally, the P.S.E. Population Report lists only five OG stamps, graded 10 (two), 20, 30 and 50.
