VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL THREE-COLOR FRANKING TO TURKEY SENT BY FRENCH MAIL. FROM THE WASHBURN CORRESPONDENCE.

This cover was carried on either Inman's City of Baltimore (depart NY Aug. 27; arrive Queenstown Sep. 6, Liverpool Sep. 7) or NGL's Hansa (depart NY Aug. 27; arrive Southampton Sep. 7). The mail was off-loaded and entered the French mail system at Calais. It was prepaid for the double 30c French Mail rate, but the 21c credit indicates it was treated as a single rate letter at the New York exchange office.

Ex "Cihangir" (Schaeffer). With 2001 P.F. certificate. Illustrated in an Apr. 10, 2000 article in Linn's Stamp News
