Sale Number 1196, Lot Number 1363, Russia24c Gray Lilac (37), 24c Gray Lilac (37)24c Gray Lilac (37). Used with 1c Blue, Ty. V, and 12c Black, Plate 3 (24, 36B), deep rich colors, tied by red grid cancels on cover to Grobin, Libau, Russia (Latvia), matching "New York Am. Pkt. VERY FINE AND ATTRACTIVE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE FRANKING TO A DESTINATION IN RUSSIA OTHER THAN ST. PETERSBURG.

The 37c rate to Russia via Prussian Closed Mail is rare, with most examples coming from the Pierce correspondence to St. Petersburg. This usage to what is now Latvia is extremely unusual.
