Sale 1265, Lot 789, Allen 12c 1851-57: Plate 3 Perforated, Sheet-Margin Examples (Scott 36B)12c Black, Plate 3 (36B). Positions 9-10/19-20R3 with top right corner sheet selvage showing engraved remnants of phantom entry above top row, unused (no gum), crisp shade, some perf separations reinforced with hinges, a few tiny scuffed spots which is not unusual for unused multiples of Scott 36B since most of the stamps come from panes that were found stuck together in remainders sold after the Civil War, otherwise Fine, interesting plate variety caused by over-rocking the transfer roll into the blank space above the top-row entries, Scott value $5,000.00 as original-gum block and $1,500.00 as four singles without gum

FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE UNUSED BLOCK OF 16 OF THE 1857 12-CENT FROM PLATE THREE, SCOTT 36B.

Scott Retail as no gum singles with no premium for the multiple or double transfer position.

Block of fifty with sheet selvage at top and right, including part imprint at bottom right, unused (no gum), few faults incl. perf separations reinforced with hinges and few creases and tears

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE LARGEST RECORDED MULTIPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1857 ISSUE (PLATE ONE OR THREE) IN PRIVATE HANDS.

This is the only half-pane of the 12c 1857 Issue from either Plate 1 or 3 in private hands. A complete pane of 100, also from Plate 3, is owned by the Franklin Institute (Jefferys Collection).

Scott Retail as ten blocks of four and five pairs with gum.

FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A STUNNING UNUSED BLOCK OF 25 OF THE 12-CENT 1857 ISSUE FROM PLATE 3. ONE OF THE LARGEST MULTIPLES EXTANT.

A pane of 100 is owned by the Franklin Institute (Jefferys Collection) and a half-pane from the DuPuy collection (also without gum) is offered in lot 1018. Apart from those two blocks we are unaware of any larger multiples.

With 1989 P.F. certificate. Scott Retail as four blocks of four, four pairs and a single with gum
