Tied by "Honolulu H.I. Jun. 8, 1898" duplexes and used with 1894 5c Rose Lake (76) which is tied by June 3 duplex on green corner card cover to San Francisco, blue crayon "2" and also 2c U.S. stamp affixed at top right, red "T 50 Centimes" due marking at left, slightly reduced at right into U.S. stamp, some slight overall wear, Very Fine, a most unusual usage, this must have been a double-weight letter and was originally underpaid by the 5c stamp, the Hawaiian post office eventually realized this was a soldier's letter and then affixed the Official stamps to pay for the postage, ex Pietsch
