VERY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE HAWAII AND UNITED STATES MIXED-FRANKING COVER FROM PAIA, HAWAII TO NORWAY.

This is the only United States and Hawaii mixed-franking cover to Norway we have encountered. The stamps pay the double 6c U.S.-Hawaii treaty rate and double 5c UPU rate from the U.S. to Norway.

With 1983 P.F. certificate.

Sep. 9 7AM" (1879) circular datestamp, Honolulu forwarder's magenta backstamp and Brighton receiving backstamp, 5c stamp with tiny perf tear and slightly toned perfs at top, still Very Fine and attractive mixed franking paying the 6c Hawaiian treaty rate to the U.S. and 5c GPU/UPU rate to England, Hawaii did not join the UPU until Jan. 1, 1882
