Sep. 7" (1863) circular datestamp on blue folded letter datelined at Monterey (Mexico) and addressed to San Antonio Tex., blue double-oval Bache-Shonfeld Co. return card handstamp, entered Mexican mails with framed "MONTEREY/ SEPTIEMBRE 6" datestamp, "FRANCO" and "2" handstamp rate on back, delivered to Confederate mail agent per manuscript "S.Y. Groos y Ca., P[uerta] Negras," who carried it across the Rio Grande and applied Confederate postage for mailing at Eagle Pass, splitting along folds

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE AND CHOICE COVER FROM MONTEREY, MEXICO, TO CONFEDERATE SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, VIA EAGLE PASS.

The Eagle Pass post office was the drop point for mail from Mexico to the Confederate States that crossed the Rio Grande further up the river near Piedras Negras. The typical franking is a pair of the 5c Blue Typograph stamps as seen here. This cover is especially desirable as it entered and received postmarks in the Mexican mails.

Military Academy" illustrated corner card depicting building and flag, slightly reduced at left but design intact, cover and stamp soiling, Fine appearance, this military academy was established in 1859 and chartered in 1861 and trained officers and enlisted men, the founders were killed during the war and the school closed in 1868

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE 9-STAR CONFEDERATE FLAG PATRIOTIC DESIGN.

The ninth star represents the admission of Arkansas, which was followed only three days later by North Carolina. Due to the short time period there were fewer 9-Star Confederate Patriotic designs produced than any other flag designs (7 thru 13 stars). They are extremely rare.
