Four singles mounted on an exhibit page from the Gerhard Blank collection with block of four 5c "Estanco" recess printing, annotated to explain how the flaw in Position 25 on the engraved plate was captured in the transfer to the lithographic stone, and also that differences in the singles prove that multiple lithographic transfers were made on one of the stones (some in strips), also with a further two singles proving the use of multiple lithographic transfers, a fascinating study, ex Blank (illustrated in his book, plate 31) and "Islander"

FINE APPEARANCE. A SPECTACULAR FRANKING WITH THE 5-CENTAVOS 1854 GILLET LITHOGRAPH PRINTING. ONE OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING OF ALL "COLON" ISSUE COVERS.

A similar cover from the Jagerschmidt & Jullian correspondence was contained in the Galvez and Blank collections, and another with eight 5c Lithograph stamps (strip of four and two pairs) realized $23,000 hammer in our sale of the Islander Collection.
