GREAT BRITAIN, 1864, 1p Rose Red, Specialized Collection (33; SG 44). In four binders, many hundreds of stamps and dozens of covers, some unused stamps and multiples, including an imprint block, used with better cancels, including British Offices Abroad, plate varieties, covers include foreign destinations, auxiliary markings, etc., a collection of every plate number (including 225), a complete check-letter reconstruction, one volume is uses in Scotland, with a few hundred stamps and a dozen covers, within this volume is another complete set of plate numbers (including 225) with "31" cancel of Edinburgh (that alone would be an arduous task to complete), and one binder is uses in Ireland, with a few hundred stamps and thirteen covers, also some imperforate Penny Reds from the Archer plates and a few stampless covers, overall a desirable collection for the specialist

The collector set out to assemble every different plate number with all the letters, from A to T (not necessarily all the different check-letter combinations), about 2,800 stamps, which is well over 90% complete, no plate no. 225, but includes several of plates 219-224, typical mixed condition, Scott Retail about $27,000.00

Manchester, Liverpool, Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow) or cancel type, then tried to get every plate number with that cancellation, in many cases the plate numbers are nearly complete for that cancel, there are over 1,500 stamps total, typical mixed quality, it would take a lot of time and effort to try to replicate this collection

Reconstruction of all plates (except of course plates 77 and 225), contains all 240 positions of each plate for a total of 36,000 stamps, all neatly mounted in eight albums, overall condition is better than normally seen, the vast majority facially attractive and lightly cancelled, Fine, to try to duplicate this collection from scratch would require years (if not decades) of painstaking work, Scott retail value is in excess of $300,000.00
