Sale Number 1232, Lot Number 1690, Boyd's Local Post Specialized Collection: Stampless, Conjunctive UsesFREE, FREEFREE. Red straightline handstamp struck twice and very boldly (as if to advertise the service) with clear red "Boyd's City Express Post, May 24 2 O'C" oval datestamp on 1845 folded letter to the New York Herald, a charming complaint (for publication) about noise emanating from a "dancing and singing" house near Greenwich Street at all hours of the night (some things never change), faint fingerprint on front, Extremely Fine, one of the four or five known examples of Boyd's free-to-the-press service, ex Abt and Golden

Sale Number 1232, Lot Number 1691, Boyd's Local Post Specialized Collection: Stampless, Conjunctive UsesBoyd's City Express Post, Oct. 2(8), Boyd's City Express Post, Oct. 2(8)Boyd's City Express Post, Oct. 2(8). Partly readable oval datestamp with "Paid/J.T.B." in frame, red "Broadway Post Office Oct. 27" double-circle datestamp struck once, overstruck by same marking with Oct. 28 date, matching "Paid" in wide arc on blue folded cover (undated) to Park Place address, Very Fine; the Broadway Post Office double-circle is an extremely rare marking -- beginning in late 1859 and into 1860 examples are found used in conjunction with Boyd's markings, which has led to speculation that an arrangement existed between Lockwood's Broadway and Chatham Square posts and Boyd's, whereby letters would be received at the former offices and delivered by the latter -- the rarity of such items leaves many unanswered questions -- this cover is noted in Abt's CCP series (Vol. 29, No. 4, p. 230), ex Golden

Sale Number 1124, Lot Number 246, Overton & Company(Overton & Co.) "COLLECT/6"CENTS", (Overton & Co.) "COLLECT/6"CENTS"(Overton & Co.) "COLLECT/6"CENTS". Three-line handstamp in a distinctive font, perfectly struck on May 22, 1845 folded letter from Lansingburgh N.Y. to local street address, manuscript "Collect 6-1/4", red "Boyd's City Express Post, May 6 9 O'C" oval datestamp, Extremely Fine, choice combination of intercity Independent Mails and Boyd's local-post service, the "Collect 6 Cents" marking is very rare, a comparison of the elements of this marking with the Overton "6" and the small-type handstamp (lots 244 and 247) provide convincing visual evidence that this was carried by Overton, who took over Pomeroy's Albany-New York City route, ex Golden and Hahn

"Collect 6-1/4" and clear strike of "COLLECT/6/CENTS" handstamp, Extremely Fine, choice combination of inter-city Independent Mails and Boyd's local-post service, the "Collect 6 Cents" marking is very rare, covers from Lansingburgh were carried by Van Benthuysen and at an earlier period by Pomeroy, in May 1845 it is likely that this was carried by Overton, who took over Pomeroy's route, ex Golden
