EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL VALENTINE USED WITH THE FIRST STAMP ISSUED IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE.
This style of datestamp was used at the beginning of the City Despatch Post in early 1842. This is the earliest reported use of an adhesive stamp in the Western hemisphere on a Valentine. Other Greig's stamps are known on Valentines, but with cancels or markings that point to a later date of use. Perhaps one other is known from this early time period.
