90c Blue, First
Design (Scott No. 62)
One of the finest of the 22 recorded examples
Census No. 62-UNC-04
|
SPECIAL NOTE: There
are many United States stamps that look similar to the rarities listed below.
Some of the differences between expensive rarities and common stamps can be
subtle, including differences in perforation, shade and size. These stamps
should have certificates from a recognized expertizing committee, such as The
Philatelic Foundation or P.S.E.
Our census of the 1861 First Designs and Colors
contains 21 examples of the 90c First Design, including one copy in the New York Public
Library collection, one with trial cancellation and another copy certified as a privately-perforated No. 62a, which
comes from a set in the Col. Green sale that was signed by John Luff (we believe this
stamp to be genuine).
