Red "Nassau Paid C OC 21 63" cds and red crayon "4" pence rate on cover to New York City from the well-known Carson correspondence, "5" in circle due hs applied at New York, backflap removed to show sender's message referring to Charleston (the origin): "Minnie sends love. The members of the family do not know I am writing. Col. Wm. C. H. of Combahee died in Charleston lately.", Very Fine, ex MacBride $ 1,500
2427 C Prize Court Mail. Cover bearing blue "Pendleton S.C. Aug. 20" cds and matching "Paid 5" hs, addressed to "Emilio Puig, Care of Spanish Consul, Charleston S.C.", red court docketing at R., some toning, still Very Fine and very rare, this cover was aboard a British ship which was captured trying to run the blockade into Charleston, the letter was then used as evidence in court proceedings, described in Dietz on p. 262 $ 750
