Paid" circular handstamp on buff cover to Liberty Hill N.C., backflap removed, reduced at left, still Fine, the only recorded Confederate handstamp of Dallasburgh, which is located in Owen County. This marking was probably applied in 1864 during Gen. Morgan's Last Kentucky Raid, which took a course thru this region - the style of the handstamp is typical of 1863-65 datestamps used by some Kentucky post offices. Its position and "Paid" designation suggest to us a possibility that the marking was applied before the stamp to show receipt of postage, then the letter was brought by one of Morgan's men to the nearest C.S.A. post office south of Kentucky and a stamp was affixed. Ex Roser $ 400
