Typical piece of onionskin paper approx. 2 x 4 in., translation reads in part "I am taking advantage of a small balloon which is due to leave today to tell you that I am perfectly well and that I wasn't wounded in any way.", date difficult to read, but appears to be "16 7bre 1870" (Garrison's Papillon), no postmarks, fresh and Very Fine, scarce mail flown by balloon during the siege of Metz $ 2,600
1437 Par Ballon Monte. Two unused printed Ballon Monte covers, one Brown and one Blue, each also accompanied by periodical "Lettre-Journal de Paris", one dated Nov. 5, other Nov. 16, 1870, blue cover with small stain at B.R., otherwise Very Fine and interesting pair $ 260
