 1c Green, Rotary Perf 11 (544). Light machine cancel, exceptionally well-centered for this notoriously challenging issue with unusually wide margins, fresh and bright color, tiny trace of corner crease at
top right is visible basically only in fluidEXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A MARVELOUS USED EXAMPLE OF THIS MAJOR 20TH CENTURY RARITY, AND ONE OF THE WIDEST-MARGINED COPIES IN EXISTENCE. A small quantity of 1c Rotary Press stamps was perforated 11 at the end of 1922, using remainder sheets from the earlier printings that were normally perforated in 10 gauge or 11/10 compound gauge. Most of the recorded copies of Scott 544 are off-center or have been damaged as a result of lower production standards and poor handling. The issue normally comes with much narrower margins at sides. The example offered here, with wide margins all around, is certainly one of the biggest copies in existence. With 2000 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates, the former not mentioning the trivial faint corner crease. The latter P.S.E. certificate still grades as a VF-XF 85 (Image Magnifier) |
