The unique unused example, fresh original gum, barely hinged, plate no. 7082 at top,. deep rich color on bright white paper VERY FINE AND CHOICE. THE UNIQUE UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1914 2-CENT PERF 12 x 10 WASHINGTON ISSUE. ONE OF THE GREATEST RARITIES OF 20TH CENTURY UNITED STATES PHILATELY. Since becoming a major Scott Catalogue number and having its own space allocated in the Scott National Album, this stamp has become the key to a complete unused collection of United States stamps. Collectors should note that no unused examples are known of the rare Scott 596 (12 recorded) and Scott 613 (43 recorded). One can only speculate how much an unused copy of either of those famously rare stamps would bring if discovered today. In the case of Scott 423B, of which only 29 are recorded (this being the only known unused example), its auction value as a major Scott number will be established for the first time in this sale.
