VERY FINE. THE UNIQUE PARTLY HAND-DRAWN ESSAY FOR THE 2-CENT JACKSON DESIGN WHICH WAS EVENTUALLY ADAPTED BY NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY.

The first series of portraits and designs, Scott 146-E2 thru 146-E7, was superseded by this later design, a form of which was adopted for the issued stamp. This is the only recorded hand-drawn essay for the issued design. Lot 1148 was prepared for use as a hand-drawn essay but was not used. (Image)
