Original gum, lightly hinged, bright blue color and proof-like impression
on fresh paper, clear grill pointsEXTREMELY FINE. THE 1868 ONE-CENT E GRILL IS FAR SCARCER THAN ITS F-GRILL COUNTERPART, PARTICULARLY IN ORIGINAL GUM CONDITION.
Some time ago we observed that the 1c E Grill appeared at auction very infrequently, in any form. After analyzing the early 1868 regular-production grills (Z, D, E and F), we concluded that grilling of the 1c 1861 issue with the E (and Z) Grill must have been short-lived, occurring sometime around February 28, 1868. Later grilling of 1c stamps was probably done with the F Grill. Relatively little of the 1c E Grill supply appears to have reached the philatelic market, as evidenced by the stamp's scarcity.

Original gum, small h.r., beautiful shade typical of early 3c E Grill
stamps, strong grill impression, perfectly centered on fresh paper with
long full perfs all aroundEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A WONDERFUL COPY OF THE 1868 3-CENT E GRILL. AN ELUSIVE STAMP IN THIS CHOICE SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM CONDITION.
The first sheets of 3c stamps run through the different grilling devices in 1867 and 1868 have a distinctive Rose shade. At first glance, this stamp looks like its C or D Grill counterparts. Undoubtedly it comes from the same stack of sheets, which were probably grilled between November 1867 and February 1868.

Original gum, lightly hinged, strong grill impression, soft charcoal shade
on fresh paperEXTREMELY FINE AND FRESH ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 15-CENT E GRILL.
Although at least one block of four of the 15c E Grill has been split in recent years, few of the stamps harvested from broken blocks have the centering and well-preserved gum and paper of this example.
