strike of cork cancel , neat "Mechum's River Va. May 29, 1883" circular
datestamp on cover to Cobham Depot Va., few perf faults at bottom, cover
slightly reduced at leftFINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF ONLY TWO EXAMPLES OF THE 1881 3-CENT RE-ENGRAVED AMERICAN BANK NOTE ISSUE WITH DOUBLE IMPRESSION KNOWN TO US, AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE ON COVER. A GREAT RARITY.
The only other example of this stamp known to us was offered as lot 149 in our 1978 Rarities sale. The cover offered here is the listing example.
