Chester Hospital. Ms.
"Examined and Approved Ebn. (Ebenezer) Swift" on stampless cover to
Green Hill P.O. Va., prisoner's endorsement "From Lieut Jas B. Miller,
Co. A, 18th Va. Regt. Confederate Soldier", "Due 10" straightline and
"Richmond Va. Aug. 25, 1863" circular datestamp, with original letter
datelined "Delaware County Pa. July 19th/63" that reads "...I am
happy to state to you all that though painfully wounded in three places in
the recent engagements near Gettysburg Pa., I am doing well. I am now in
Chester Hospital, well cared for and have been very kindly treated ever
since I have been taken out of our lines. Chester Hospital is near Chester
station on the Philadelphia and Baltimre Rail Road...I was wounded on July
the 3rd near Gettysburg. I had a rough time of it on the field before I was
