F.B. Deane Jr. & Son, Lynchburg Va.," docketing at left reads "Genl.
Lee's letter to A. Hunter Jany 11th 1865 on emancipation", cover with
faults, otherwise Fine, scarce Navy imprint and remarkable docketing
notation, referring to the letter written by Gen. Robert E. Lee to Sen.
Hunter encouraging the use of emancipated slaves as soldiers in the
Confederate Army during the final desperate stage of the war (a transcript
