VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A REMARKABLY RARE USE OF THE 12-CENT 1861 ISSUE TO PAY PART OF THE 45-CENT RATE TO CHINA.

Virtually all of the 45c rate covers from the Wingate correspondence have four 10c stamps in combination with the 2c and 3c to make up the rate. This is the rare exception. (Image)
