Overprint (86c). Bottom margin block of four with additional overprints
in selvage, barely hinged, deep rich color, overprint shifted slightly
horizontallyVERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN EXTREMELY RARE BOTTOM SHEET-MARGIN BLOCK OF THIS INVERTED OVERPRINT VARIETY. ONLY TEN SHEET-MARGIN EXAMPLES WERE PRINTED. A WONDERFUL SHOWPIECE. According to Canal Zone Stamps, these errors were created because the press was set up as a 100-subject overprint form to accommodate narrow selvage at bottom. When one pane was mistakenly inserted in the wrong direction the top row missed receiving the overprint, which was printed instead on the wide selvage at bottom. With 1969 A.P.S. certificate. Scott Retail as four singles of the inverted overprint variety, with no premium for either the block or sheet margin (Image) |
