light yellow cover to Boston Mass., from the Lieut. A. E. Proctor
correspondence, bold "New Orleans La. Feb. 6, 1864" double-circle datestamp
and matching "Due 6" in circle handstamp, some slight edgewear, Very Fine,
Camp Groce was a Confederate prison in Hempstead Tex., where captured
prisoners from the Battle of Sabine Pass were held -- Harrison records
three covers, but at least four are known -- with 1994 C.S.A. certificate

bearing 5c Olive Green, Stone 1 (1c) tied by "Knoxville Tenn. 9 June 1862"
circular datestamp to James Monroe Meeks at Macon Ga., ms. "Prisoner" at
bottom left, ms. censor's mark "Examined and found all right" at
top, slightly reduced at top and missing top flap, repaired along edges,
otherwise Fine, unusual usage, research by Galen Harrison has determined
that the recipient was a former member of the Tenn. legislature with
Unionist leanings who was arrested by Col. Churchwell and sent to the
prison camp at Macon Ga. on charges of encouraging others to join the Union
army -- this cover is illustrated in Harrison book (p. 27) -- with 1987

Ga.). Yellow cover with ms. "Ex M.R.T." (M. Robert Tidwell) and
soldier's endorsement to Blairsville Pa., neat "Old Point Comfort Va. Jul.
18" circular datestamp and "Due 6" in circle handstamp, opened roughly at
right, Fine, the sender was captured at the Battle of Plymouth N.C. on
April 20, 1864 and taken to Macon Ga. prison. He was later sent to Savannah
Ga. (Jul. 28, 1864) and Charleston S.C. (Sept. 13, 1864), this is the
earliest known date of the approximately six covers known from Macon Ga.
