24c Gray (78b). Original
gum, lightly hinged, pretty shade, choice centeringEXTREMELY FINE. THE 1863 24-CENT GRAY IS RARELY FOUND IN THIS SUPERB ORIGINAL-GUM CONDITION. Although the 24c 1861-66 Issue exists in large quantities of used stamps and a fair quantity of off-center original-gum examples, all of the shades are rare in higher grades with original gum. This superb Gray (a later printing) is remarkable not only for its centering and gum, but there are no traces of toning that often plague original-gum examples of Scott 78b. (Image) |
