1677. 187 x 66mm ms. letter, addressed at left with ms. "Haste post
haste" to "Captain Charles Frost at Kittery or posts", letter
reads, "Capt. Frost, I am so much solicited on the behalf of Richard
Price one of your soldiery that I can no longer resist but desire and order
to dismiss him to return home. Hereby Authorizing you to impress for one of
the young man of those parts to supply his place. We are now sending out.
Capt. Swett with a company to Black Point ... I have no more at present to
add but that I am your servant Daniel Denison, M.G." (Major General)

MICHIGAN. "Fort-Winnebago
M.T." [Black Hawk War]. Clearly struck black circular handstamp with
ms. date "Aug. 22" in red on folded letter datelined "Aug. 21, 1832"
to John L. Lacy, Esq, Fort Niagra, N.Y., ms. "25" rate, letter with
comments about the ongoing Black Hawk War: About our Indian Woes. Tis
about over. The Sacs + Foxes have been `pretty much round up' with the
exception of some hundred and forty prisoners at Fort Crawford. They have
pretty much forfeited their scalps. Genl Scott -- one of the commissioners
to hold a treaty with the Indians at Fort Armstrong, Rock Island, is now in
command of the Army of the Northwest. He ... has already declared that if
Black Hawk is not delivered to him by the 20th this month he will cross the
Mississippi and wage war against the remainder of the Sacs...", almost
split along vertical between pages of letter (not visible when folded),

to Baltimore (blue Jun. 14 cds), then forwarded to New York (red Jun. 17
cds) and Philadelphia (red Jun. 19 cds), then finally reaching the
recipient in New York, ms. rated four times, first page of letter removed,
1843 forwarded note on backflap, Very Fine, with 1954 note by Ashbrook
wondering what the addressee had to pay to receive it
