EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING STAMP. TO THE BEST OF KNOWLEDGE, THIS IS THE FINEST ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 3-CENT F GRILL EXTANT.

For a stamp within a sheet to be perforated with double-size margins on all four sides, all of the surrounding stamps had to be severely off center. Our guess is that this stamp comes from a corner position.

With 1988 P.F. certificate (Image)

1020 nh image5c Brown, F. Grill (95). Mint N.H., clearly-defined grill, rich color

VERY FINE. A RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 5-CENT F GRILL.

Only a few 5c F Grill stamps exist in sound Mint Never-Hinged condition, and they were harvested from blocks broken up during the past five to ten years. Many of the stamps from these broken blocks have scuffs -- this one does not.

With 2001 P.F. certificate. Scott Retail as hinged (Image)

1021 ogbl image5c Brown, F. Grill (95). Block of four, original gum, clear grill points on every stamp, crisp color and impression

EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 1868 5-CENT F GRILL. ONE OF THE LAST BLOCKS TO SURVIVE IN SUCH WONDERFUL CONDITION.

Original-gum singles and blocks of the 5c F Grill tend to be in rather poor condition, either in terms of centering, color or overall condition. The block offered here should be considered a condition rarity. It is increasingly unlikely that any other well-centered blocks will survive the demand for singles. (Image)
