EXTREMELY FINE. AN OUSTANDING ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1855 10-CENT TYPE III IMPERFORATE ISSUE THAT WE CONFIDENTLY DESCRIBE AS MINT NEVER-HINGED.

The stamp offered here was the righthand stamp in the strip of three from which lot 206 from our December 2000 auction (Sale 833) was also removed. The single hinge was applied to the center of the strip and, in our opinion, did not touch this stamp. The few truly Mint N.H. 1847-56 imperforate stamps come from multiples in which some stamps were spared from the hinge. Despite evidence that the hinge on the strip never touched this stamp, the P.F. refused to describe it as Never Hinged. In this case, we have agreed to disagree, and we offer the stamp based on the P.F. opinion.

With copy of 1978 (for horizontal strip of three) and 2001 P.F. certificates (Image)
